Dear Neighbor,
My name is Rima Mohammad and I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for State Representative for Michigan’s House District 33!
I am eager to serve and represent the diverse communities within our district, including Ann Arbor, Bridgewater Township, Freedom Township, Lodi Township, Pittsfield Charter Township, Saline City, Saline Township, York Township, and Scio Township.
As a daughter and granddaughter of Palestinian refugees, I have personally experienced the struggles of displacement and adversity. My family’s journey to the United States at a young age instilled in me a deep appreciation for the opportunities and resources this country has provided me.
Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to serving others and addressing the most pressing issues facing our society. Whether as a researcher, clinician, or member of the Ann Arbor Public School Board, I have always prioritized compassion and equity in my approach to problem-solving.
I am acutely aware of the challenges facing our district, including the economic disparities, educational inequities, healthcare access, environmental concerns, and social justice issues. These challenges disproportionately affect marginalized and vulnerable communities, and it is imperative that we address them with urgency and compassion.
Education is a fundamental pillar of our society, and as a former refugee who understands the transformative power of education, I am committed to ensuring that every child in Michigan has access to a world-class education. I will advocate for policies that prioritize public education, support pre-K for all initiatives, invest in educator recruitment and retention, and foster collaborative partnerships within our education system.
Access to quality healthcare is a basic human right, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that every individual in our state has access to affordable and comprehensive healthcare services. This includes addressing the opioid crisis, supporting healthcare workforce development, advocating for insurance reform, and prioritizing mental health services.
Furthermore, I recognize the importance of environmental sustainability and will fight to protect Michigan’s valuable natural resources from predatory corporations seeking to take advantage of our Great Lakes.
I am passionate about serving our community and ensuring that all voices are heard and represented in Lansing. I am accessible to all members of our community and look forward to hearing from you.
Together, we can build a brighter future for all Michiganders.
In service,
Rima Mohammad
